DEFECTOSCOPY is the exhibition of the world largest manufacturers and suppliers of equipment for industrial non-destructive testing and technical diagnostics. Practically every participant of this exhibition is a leader in its field.

More than 70 foreign and Russian companies took part in DEFECTOSCOPY 2004, organized by Restec Exhibition Company and NDT World Review and supported by the Russian Society for NDT and Technical Diagnostics, the European Federation for NDT, the International Committee for NDT.

Recently, strong tendency to active using of NDT means in industry and transport can be noted in Russia. This led to the necessity to demonstrate new achievements, to exchange views and experience. That is why it is hardly possible to overestimate the significance of DEFECTOSCOPY, dedicated to the problems of NDT and Technical Diagnostics, both for manufacturers, suppliers and the consumers of NDT means.
Ultrasonic testing and radiography, visual and optical inspection, vibration monitoring and electromagnetic inspection, infrared/thermography testing, liquid penetrants and magnetic particle inspection - all the NDT methods were represented at the Exhibition in Mikhailovsky Manege.

This year the Russian and world leading companies-manufacturers of NDT and diagnostics means took part in the Exhibition. It is important to note the permanent exhibitors of DEFECTOSCOPY, namely ACS/MSIA "Spectrum" (Moscow), Altek (St. Petersburg), Ultes (Moscow), ASK-Roentgen /Rich. Seifert (St. Petersburg/Germany), Belfi (St. Petersburg), Introscop (Moldova), Luch (Moscow), Nordinkraft (Cherepovets), Olympus Moscow, Radioavionika (St. Petersburg), RDM (Moldova), Syntez-NDT (St. Petersburg), Spectroflash (St. Petersburg), Tvema (Moscow), FOMA Bohemia (Czech Republic), Helling GmbH (Germany).

Over 5 years the Exhibition has been attracting the attention of specialists thanks to the exposition and to the intensive and rich scientific and business program. The jubilee exhibition was not an exception! There were 3 roving seminars and 12 "round tables", held within the framework of DEFECTOSCOPY. The questions discussed were dedicated to urgent, topical issues of Non-Destructive Testing and Technical Diagnostics.

In the opinion of the specialists-practicians the seminars "Modern Methods and Instrumentations for Diagnostics of Non-metallic Materials and Constructions" (The B.E. Vedeneev Institute for Water Engineering) and "Inspection of Earth Base Infrastructure" (The A.F. Mozhaisky Military Space Engineering Academy) turned out to be extremely productive.

Esteemed Russian specialists from Moscow, Omsk, St. Petersburg, Toliatti, Tomsk, Cherepovets as well as Belarussian specialists took part in the organization of the "round tables". The questions discussed were both of strategic importance, such as: NDT Measurement Assurance and Personnel Certification, NDT in Atomic Power Generations and Atomic Industry, Means and Methods of Thermography Testing and Industrial Computed Tomography, and urgent problems: NDT of Spot Welding, Vibration Monitoring Methods etc.

Precise and interrelated functioning of the chain "technology-man" guarantees safety at the rail transport. The most important thing here is to supply a man with technology capable to prevent emergency situations. Over 15 thousand specialists provide the rail inspection in Russia today. It has become good tradition to hold special actions aimed at rail specialists within the framework of the Exhibition. This year we can note the seminar "NDT and Safety at the Rail Transport" and the demonstration of detachable two-line ultrasonic flaw detectors service for continuous inspection of rails. Fragments of rails were installed at the Exhibition to demonstrate samples of modern technology. These actions were supported by Oktyabrskaya Railways and Institute for Advanced Training and Re-Training of Personnel of St. Petersburg State University of Railways.
